Why Thermal Curtains Help Decrease Your Energy Bills

Tags: , , , , ,

If you’re paying too much for heating your home in winter, maybe it’s time to consider installing some nice thermal insulated curtains at your windows. They are maybe the cheapest way of insulating your rooms, because the fabric they are made of is not so expensive and you can make them yourself if you know how to sew two pieces of fabric together.

The main action a thermal curtain has is that it stops the cold air from advancing towards the center of the room. Yes, there’s a layer of cold air onto the glass surface of your windows, don’t tell me you haven’t noticed that. As cold air is attracted to move towards hot air, this movement will create those air drafts that can be so embarrassing. A think, insulating curtain will stop them, because cold air and hot air won’t mix together anymore.

For the thermal curtain to work at its maximum efficient, you’ll have to secure it against the wall on all four sides. Some magnets and metallic tracks would do the trick. Another idea is to use Velcro tape: stick one strip on the wall and sew the other strip on the curtain edge. The effect is guaranteed.

How Healthy Is Tuna Salad

Tags: , , , , , , ,

A good tuna salad recipe is something that many people see as a healthy meal. Indeed, if we think that tuna, and fish in general, contains those unsaturated fatty acids, omega-3, which are very good for our health, yes, we can say it’s a healthy meal and it should be repeated many times a week. However, health is not the same for all. For instance, giving children tuna fish, and especially the albacore species, can be detrimental to their health. That’s because such fish is rich in mercury, which is a toxic substance for children and which can interfere with their normal growth and development.

As you can see, there’s more to healthy eating than simply making lists of nutrients and trying to fill ourselves with the recommended daily dose of each.

Does a Nursing Pillow Make Breastfeeding Easier?

Tags: , , , , ,

Many mothers encounter difficulties when trying to breastfeed their babies, and that’s mainly a consequence of the wrong position of the baby at the breast. This can cause an incorrect latch, which results in a poor feeding experience and sometimes in sore nipples for the mom.

A nursing pillow can help, because of two reasons:

  • First of all, it helps the baby take the correct position relative to the nipple and to the breast itself
  • Secondly, the pillow supports a part of the baby’s weight, so the mother can hold him with only one hand, while she can do other things with the other hand.

Some models of nursing pillows offer also backrest support for the mother, because of their special shape, designed to be worn around the waist. Therefore, these pillows could prove themselves really useful. They aren’t very expensive, so you can get one if you’re nursing and have troubles. They are also suitable to be offered as gifts to nursing moms.

Where to Buy Russian Blue Kittens in Europe

Tags: , , , , , ,

If you wish to get yourself a very special cat, you could consider getting a Russian Blue. This cat breed is an excellent companion for your family, because it’s playful even at older ages, so it would make a very nice entertainment if you want to feel good and forget your worries and day to day problems.

If you live in Europe, you’d want to search and see what catteries that offer this breed of cats are available in your area. You don’t have to look necessarily in your country only, because you may find some better deals in countries where prices are lower. Transportation shouldn’t be a problem, as there are companies that specialize in pets transportation, they have suitable vehicles and professional staff to care for the little fellows during their travel.

Before you buy Russian Blue kittens, or any other breed of cats, here’s what you need to know:

  • If you can, try to contact breeders directly. Most of them would let you see the cats in the cattery, they’d give you the kitten’s pedigree, the international passport and all other documents required for you to travel with your cat. If you buy from intermediaries, some of them won’t provide you the pedigree, so you won’t be sure if your cat is a pure breed or not.
  • No breeder would give you a kitten of an age that’s smaller than 3 months, because they aren’t weaned yet.
  • The basic welcome kit should be bought before you bring the new cat home. You’ll need cat food, dishes, toys, a scratching post, a litter tray and of course the litter to fill it with. Some breeders will advise you to buy some disinfectant solution and use it all over the place in your home before the kitty arrives.

End of Year Social Home Cleaning

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

As I don’t have money to call those cleaning Merry Maids services, I’m looking for cheaper ways of getting my house cleaned for the New Year’s celebration. This is how I discovered that a good housewife needs only very few equipment to get things done in an excellent manner. With only a vacuum cleaner, some detergents, clothes and dusters, a house can become squeaky clean in less than one day. This includes also washing the windows and the doors. The easiest to clean are the kitchen and bathroom tiles, while the hardest to clean are, in my opinion, the carpets. There’s always so much dust deep inside their fibers, that it looks almost like being impossible to get it out of there. In such cases, portable steam cleaners may be the best solution. They use only water and the power of vapors to clean, so such devices are very good in case one of your family members is allergic to cleaning chemicals, or to those tiny acarians. Because the steam is extremely hot when it comes out the nozzle, it instantly kills and blows away micro-organisms and germs. In order to have more fun, my friends and I are doing a sort of a cleaning game: we gather together at each other’s place and do the cleaning together. In this way we can have fun, chat and laugh, tell jokes and have our homes clean and shiny for the year to come.

This is what I’d call private social cleaning.
